Game Harmony: A Short Note
نویسنده
چکیده
Strategic uncertainty in game theory may have two di¤erent general sources, either alone or in combination: uncertainty because of the existence of a coordination problem, and uncertainty because of a con‡ict between one own and the other n players’ interests. Game harmony is conceived as a generic game property that describes how harmonious (non-con‡ictual) or disharmonious (con‡ictual) the interests of the n players are, as embodied in the game payo¤s. Pure coordination games are examples of games with maximal game harmony; zero sum games are examples of games with very low game harmony. This note brie‡y describes attempts to measure game harmony simply as a real-valued number. These attempts do not focus just on equilibrium payo¤s. This is not just because this would make the measurement of game harmony dependent on the reasonableness of the equilibrium concept for any given game, but also and more fundamentally because a restriction on equilibrium payo¤s would hide any disharmony in the interests among players that does not derive from the equilibrium payo¤s. For example, in the case of the standard Prisoner’s Dilemma, the equilibrium payo¤ gives the same amount to each player, and so no disharmony of interests emerges while it should. A simple way to think about game harmony measurement would be to ask ourselves to what extent the payo¤s of each player co-vary. In the case of a pure coordination game, they co-vary one-to-one and positively, whereas in the case of a zero-sum game they co-vary one-toone but negatively. Therefore, parametric or nonparametric correlation measures, such as Pearson or Spearman respectively, may be used as game harmony measures. Unfortunately, these measures can only be used with n = 2. Some form of extension is required if there are more than two players. Let k be the number of binary combinations among players:

A note on the paper "A multi-population harmony search algorithm with external archive for dynamic optimization problems" by Turky and Abdullah
In a very recently presented paper, Turky and Abdullah [5] proposed a novel multipopulation harmony search with external archive (MHSA-ExtArchive) for dynamic optimization problems. In the experimental results, the authors claimed that their approach could outperform several state-of-the-art algorithms. They also showed the superiority of their method by means of numerical experiments on Moving...
متن کاملDesigning of Supply Chain Coordination Mechanism with Leadership Considering (RESEARCH NOTE)
Abstract Vertical cooperative (co-op) advertising is typically a cost sharing mechanism and coordinated effort by the channel’s members in order to increase demand and overall profits. In this marketing strategy, the manufacturer shares a fraction of the retailer’s advertising investment. This paper studies the advertising and pricing decisions in a retailer-manufacturer supply chain in which...
متن کاملKey membership and implied harmony in Western tonal music: developmental perspectives.
We investigated the role of key membership and implied harmony in adults' and children's perception of tone sequences. Listeners were evaluated on their ability to detect three types of changes in one note of a well-structured Western tonal melody. In one change (out-of-key) the new note was not in the basis key, in another (out-of-harmony) it was in the key but not in the implied harmony, and ...

This paper proposes a mixed integer programming model for single-item capacitated lot-sizing problem with setup times, safety stock, demand shortages, outsourcing and inventory capacity. Due to the complexity of problem, three meta-heuristics algorithms named simulated annealing (SA), vibration damping optimization (VDO) and harmony search (HS) have been used to solve this model. Additionally, ...
